My name is Jonathan Kennedy. I am a filmmaker and photographer recently relocated from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Hamilton, Ontario.
I was born in 1985 and I've been making things and not making things to varying degrees ever since. I started drawing around the same time I learned to hold a pencil. I made my first website in 1997. Photography and filmmaking came about a decade later. I like the weird, the eerie and the surreal.
I studied political science and sociology at Memorial University of Newfoundland. In 2016 I spent two weeks in Cuba alongside around 50 wonderful and incredibly talented people from around the world under the tutelage of Abbas Kiarostami where I made my short film I Have Always Lived Here. Later in 2016 I won a Newfoundland and Labrador Arts & Letters award for my experimental short Haunted.
My influences include Gothic Marxism, pro wrestling and soda.
