About

My name is Jonathan Kennedy. I am a filmmaker and photographer in St. John's, Newfoundland. I was born in 1985 and I've been making things and not making things to varying degrees ever since. I started drawing around the same time I learned to hold a pencil. I made my first website in 1997. Photography and filmmaking came about a decade later. I prefer ugly and weird to pretty and clean.

I studied political science and sociology at Memorial University of Newfoundland. In 2016 I spent two weeks in Cuba alongside around 50  wonderful and incredibly talented people from around the world under the tutelage of Abbas Kiarostami where I made my short film I Have Always Lived Here. Later in 2016 I won a Newfoundland and Labrador Arts & Letters award for my experimental short Haunted.

My influences include Marxism, feminism, surrealism, pro wrestling and soda.
